Friday's Flowers: lupines in Maine

We're on vacation on Mount Desert Island, Maine this week, and the lupines are blooming! We come each year at this time, but haven't seen them yet; I heard on the radio this morning that the flowers are three weeks ahead here this year. (Bad news for bees and blueberries, though good news for early tourists.) One thing that fascinates us about this area is how all the flowers seem to bloom at once--things that each have their own season at home bloom here all together. Right now, there are:
lupines, everywhere!
beach roses
day lillies
and so many others!

This bunch of lupines has graced our table in the cottage all week. I'll be sad to leave them behind; the roadsides are full of them here, and it's such a glorious sight.

Check out all the other Friday's Flowers here at FIMBY.

(p.s. It's my birthday today. 41! It just doesn't sound right!)

I'm so happy you are enjoying the lupines. Yes, they are 3 weeks early here also (Central Maine). The lupines in our garden are pink and blueish and I just love them, unfortunately so do the aphids.

We've sprayed with soapy water but the plants look all wilted and sad. A few of the plants escaped though and we are enjoying those blooms.

Enjoy your vacation in Maine! And a very happy birthday to you!

I love lupines. Mine are blooming right now as well. We've been thinking of heading up to Acadia in August. It's been years since I was there and it is so beautiful.

Happy birthday!!! Birthdays are a bit disconcerting, aren't they? A friend turned 64 two days ago. Her mother commented, "You're 82 years old today." "No," my friend said, "I'm 64." The mother thought a moment and then asked, "Then who's 82?" You can guess the answer!

It's always interesting to me to hear what's blooming in other parts of the country. Looking at your list, I recognize that we have many of the same flowers in bloom, but our daylilies are nowhere near blooming. Why would they be so far behind when everything else on your list is flowering here? Another mystery.

Enjoy your holiday--
